A conversation with writer FRED VAN LENTE

Image
EDITOR’S NOTE:  I was granted an opportunity to interview Fred Van Lente in June 2016 upon the release of the first issue of WEIRD DETECTIVE from Dark Horse Comics. While I wrote several detailed analytical reviews of that six-issue mini-series, I never got around to posting about our conversation.  I procrastinate often. That’s not the first time I’ve sat on an article long enough to make it out-dated, and it probably won’t be the last.    Since Van Lente will be making a new appearance at Captain Blue Hen this Wednesday, August 23 (to celebrate the release of WAR MOTHER #1 from Valiant Comics),  I decided to re-visit my notes to see if there were any items that I could get updates on and write about.  What I discovered is that there’s still plenty of interesting information to share with blog readers.  So, one year and two months later, here we go . . . . . .Fred Van Lente (pronounced Lenn-Tee) was born February 14, 1972 on an Army base in Tacoma, Washington.  His ancestors hail fro…

Pre-Release Review: WAR MOTHER #1 from Valiant

Image
EDITOR’S NOTE: - Writer Fred Van Lente will make a special appearance at CAPTAIN BLUE HEN COMICS in Newark, Delaware this Wednesday (August 23) to celebrate the release of WAR MOTHER #1.      Fred also visited CBH last year on the release date of WEIRD DETECTIVE. He’s one of the most fan-friendly people in the comics industry and a great person to chat with.  If you missed the appearance last year, let this serve as your heads-up notice.      Also from last year, The 4001 A.D.: WAR MOTHER one-shot issue from August 2016 was one of the high points of the 4001 A.D. storyline that ran through the RAI-related titles from VALIANT ENTERTAINMENT.  See my review of that book, using the Archives link on the left and heading to August 06, 2016. I was fortunate enough to obtain a digital copy of WAR MOTHER #1 from the nice folks at Valiant.  I’m glad I had time to review it and share with you here before the release date.  Mark your calendar now: 1) Visit CBH on August 23. 2) Pick up a copy of W…
