I'm aghast! Horror Comic recognition program is ending.

EDITOR’S NOTES: I’m going to miss the Ghastly Awards. However, as with all fan endeavors, they are a labor of love that often go unrecognized until life/work/family gets in the way and forces some hard decisions and choices. Thanks for Decapitated Dan for his dedication and efforts over the past six years plus. Here from Dan are some final words on the Ghastlys . . . . . . . . . .   The End of the Ghastly Awards   It is with a heavy heart that today I officially announce the end of the Ghastly Awards.  Since 2011 the Ghastly Awards have awarded the Best in Horror Comics with the recognition that they deserved in the Comic Book Industry. We have given out close to 100 Awards in this time. We announce the end of the Awards due to personal commitments and time constraints. I have asked a lot from the Judges over the past 6 years, and have been rewarded with an amazing commitment to showcasing the genre and the talent in the comic community. A lot of ti

ALTERNA increases print run based on early orders

Image
EDITOR’S NOTE:  I like what this small independent publisher is doing to bring back low-cost comics as well as offer another outlet for creative teams to showcase their work and ideas. They also are developing some programs to help comic shops promote their books. While they didn't have any books ready for Free Comic Book Day, their initial newsprint titles will debut this week on May 3rd, just three days before FCBD. If you're stopping by your local comic shop between now and then, keep a look out for the Alterna books. It won't cost you very much to give them a try. Newsprint is less expensive, so they can sell for less. Here’s an update courtesy of the publisher . . . . .   With a few days to go before the May 3rd debut of Alterna's affordably priced newsprint comics, early order numbers for June's releases are currently blowing away expectations.   Currently at double the amount of May's initial order numbers, Alterna will be increasing print runs f

Pre-Order Picks: Not too late to add these ALTERNA titles to your list for June 2017

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Want to try out more new titles, but tired of paying $4 or more for something you’re not sure is right for you?  Alterna Press is making this very affordable by launching a slew of new series and mini-series printed on newsprint, which brings production costs down.  Six bucks today only buys two DC comics or 1.5 comics from most other publishers.  That same six bucks will net you all four of these #1 issues.  When the prices get this affordable, how can you not take a chance and check these out.  By the way, Alterna is not a new company so there’s no danger of their folding up the tent and moving on. They have a long track record of publishing — they just happen to be in more of the spotlight now due to their publishing initiative.  Read more below . . . . . . .      Pre-Order @ Your Local Comic Shop >> MOTHER RUSSIA #1 of 3  - (W/A) Jeff McComsey Great for fans of Resident Evi
