PAPERCUTZ’S LUNCH WITCH CONTINUES TO MAKE MAGIC
Publisher Signs Deal For Additional Volumes of THE LUNCH WITCH series, Launches New Website

It looks like Grunhilda may have found some job security after all. The title character of Deb Lucke's debut graphic novel, THE LUNCH WITCH is set to star in three more volumes from kids graphic novel publisher Papercutz. The deal, announced today by Meredith Kaffel of Defiore & Company and Terry Nantier, President of Papercutz demonstrates the publisher's commitment to original graphic novels in general and this series in particular.

"THE LUNCH WITCH has been one of the highlights of our 2015 list and a cornerstone of our OGN program", explained Nantier. "After launching the series so successfully, we simply couldn't envision Grunhilda (or Deb) at another publishing house. Besides, I'm still trying to perfect her recipe for engorged tick scones. Hopefully, the old hag (and I mean that affectionately) will give me a few pointers!"

Published in March of this year, THE LUNCH WITCH has been a critical and commercial success, receiving starred reviews and performing well at retail. That momentum looks to continue over the summer as Lucke appears at a number of different trade and consumer events. Fresh off an appearance at the Toronto Comic Arts Fair, Lucke just participated in the ABA's "Author Speed Dating" event at BEA and signed copies of her book at the Papercutz booth during BookCon.

The veteran children's book creator has been delighted with the reception to her debut graphic novel and is excited about signing a long term deal with her publisher. “I’m grateful to them for the support and creative freedom I got from Papercutz on my first graphic novel,” noted Lucke. “ And I’m delighted that we’ll continue to work together to bring Grunhilda’s bad attitude to eager young readers. It’s great to be able to plot the next few years of her (and my) life."

Lucke and the Papercutz team are also coming up with ways to keep Lunch Witch fans engaged while they wait for the next volume. Grunhilda is very active on social media with Twitter and Instagram, and Tumblr pages and she's recently launched her own website - thelunchwitch.com.

"Grunhilda wasn't terribly happy about the book or the website. She’s worried about the Salem PTA will find out," says Lucke. "But she’s has ways of keeping her secret safe.” If readers are brave enough to get past her homepage, they'll find recipes for things like 'Dragon Scales' and 'Dog's Breakfast Cookies', testimonials from satisfied customers and they can even solicit some 'Bad Advice' from the Lunch Witch herself.

Future social media plans include You Tube videos and other transmedia efforts to keep the narrative progressing while Lucke finishes the next book in the series. "Readers have only seen a little bit of the rich cast of characters and deep backstory that make up the world of the Lunch Witch", noted Papercutz VP of Marketing Sven Larsen. "These digital narratives provide a nice bridge between volumes that will keep readers engaged and prepare them for their next visit with Grunhilda and company."

"There are a lot of seeds planted in the first volume that I’m excited to develop", added Lucke." If things go as planned, Grunhilda and her readers will be sharing lunches for many years to come. Who knows? Maybe she'll even bring her 'special touch' to some college meal plans!”

That’s bad news for Grunhilda’s students but good news for fans of THE LUNCH WITCH. It looks like she’ll be serving up Hansel and Gretel Pie for a long time to come!
